Test Build of Platform – Day 1

The components of our platform finally arrived yesterday, and we test-built a major part of it today in McMurdo. We will set up the gantry and the tent tomorrow, and we hope to be done by the afternoon. The assembly involved a lot of measuring, levelling, heavy lifting, screwing and bolting. We received much help and tips from Chad. Robin, Maciej, Annika and Thaona worked with us all day. The platform was excellently designed by Bill. We finished assembling most of the platform in 9 hours.

9 hours! I bet that was a long day that you are glad is over. It’s good to see you guys are getting to have a little bit of time for recreation and sightseeing though.

It sure looks different down there than it did in the parking lot! Glad to know that Ian, Bob and crew did such a fantastic job. Thanks again for keeping us girls in the loop. The ice caves are spectacular.

    PS You guys look cold!

Envy you Shilpa. I am reminded of all those national Geographic episodes on various expeditions to Antartica and you are right there to experience it all. Keep up the good work.
